“The most powerful weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed.”
— Steve Biko
The Liberation Lab™
The Liberation Lab is WITS’ space for people who are ready to move beyond simply understanding what needs to change and begin exploring how we change it—together.
We believe transformation happens on more than one level. It happens within us, in our relationships, in our families, and in the communities and systems we are part of. The Liberation Lab brings those levels together through community education, dialogue, skill-building, embodied practice, and collective action.
This is a space to learn, question, imagine, practice, and organize.
From Awareness to Action
The Liberation Lab is built around a simple movement:
Learn → Reflect → Connect → Practice → Act
Learning gives us language.
Reflection helps us understand our own experiences and assumptions.
Connection reminds us that we do not have to do this work alone.
Practice gives us an opportunity to try new ways of relating, communicating, organizing, and responding.
Action turns insight into something tangible.
We are interested in the space between knowing and doing—because that is often where meaningful transformation either happens or gets stuck.
What Happens in the Lab?
The Liberation Lab will offer workshops, learning experiences, community conversations, and organizing opportunities centered around themes such as:
- Community organizing and collective action
- Power, privilege, and systems of oppression
- Healthy masculinity and gender justice
- Healing from systemic harm
- Boundaries, communication, and conflict transformation
- Community care and sustainable activism
- Leadership development
- Civic engagement and advocacy
- Building healthier and more connected communities
Some sessions may feel like a workshop. Others may feel like a conversation, a circle, a training, or a strategy session.
The format may change.
The intention remains the same: learn together, practice together, and move toward action together.
